How to store your posters

Whether you collect posters, or sell posters, storing your posters is extremely important.

The first step to ensuring no damage of your posters is to inspect each poster. Make

sure there isn’t sticky residue left behind that can stick to sides when rolled away. Make

sure your posters are clean, and have no remnants of dirt, or tape.

After ensuring your poster is clean and free of tacky substance, you are going to neatly

roll your poster up. Make sure when rolling you are rolling evenly, keeping in mind that

any unevenly sized posters need to be rolled with the smallest part of the poster in the

center.

To ensure no damage caused by weather changes, such as humidity you will want to

store your rolled poster in a plastic bag. When selecting the bag you use, keep in mind

the “you get what you pay for” way of thinking. Cheaper bags have an acid in them that

can damage your posters over time. Go for a more expensive Acid free plastic bag.

Place your rolled poster inside the plastic bag, roll the bag up as if attempting to leave

no air inside the bag, twist the top half of your bag, and tape down the sides of the bag.

You want to keep any moister out of the bag to ensure damage protection.

Once your poster is sealed up from the elements of nature, placing in a cardboard tube

is very common. (You also want to make sure that the area in which you are storing is

critter free and away from any changing elements.) You can find square shaped

cardboard tubes to make stacking away easier, but also circular tubes. The circular

tubes are not so great for stacking, but won’t be a bother if you’re only storing away a

few posters.

If you are selling posters and need to take one out for viewing I would recommend

framing one of the posters for display, this will keep the poster in good quality, while

leaving the inventory untouched and undamaged. You can also take photos and

measurements to display to avoid damaging your inventory. Finger oils can damage

your poster, avoiding contact is crucial to the integrity of your inventory or collection.

Whether you’re selling inventory or collecting for your prized collection, keeping your

posters at the best integrity is key.
